Masahiro Sakurai has been working on a secret game for years now
Sneak Sakurai...
Masahiro Sakurai released the special finale episode of his “Creating Games” video series today, and he dropped a rather big bombshell that’ll have fans speculating for months to come.
Throughout the 40+ minute video, Sakurai covers a ton of ground, but it’s a quick note on something new that is no doubt the most interesting tidbit. Sakurai mentions that when he was working on Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC back in July 2021, he received a request to write a game proposal, and he put that together at breakneck speed.
Wondering just what that game is? Sakurai says that he can’t share more on the project for the time being, but “it should be announced sooner or later.” Sakurai does note that the reveal depends on whether the developers can get the project made, but with Sakurai involved, it seems quite likely things will come to fruition.
If you’d like to see the entire finale for the Creating Games series, you can find it below.

13d agoInteresting indeed, he might be one of the few that is able to create a true system seller out of new original Starfox game. Or possibly he makes sure the Switch successor has a good Smash Bros game as well..

13d agoIt is the most Masahiro Sakurai thing imaginable that once he finally found himself with a nice span of free time he decides to undertake an absolutely staggering task lasting actual years, concluding it with the most charming and beautifully honest chronicling of the entire process. What’s more, he chose not to monetize a single piece of it. While even he admits that is a regret, he absolutely deserves to be commended for such incredible dedication to the craft. The work ethic on display is mildly troubling, but makes none of his success over the years surprising. It’s makes perfect sense that he was essentially Satoru Iwata’s protégé. The quality of their character and strength of their convictions speak for themselves. I still have so many episodes I’ve missed and a finale like this motivates me all the more to dedicate time to watching the rest. The man is an unquestionable asset to the game dev landscape, and is appropriately recognized by his contemporaries. How else can you get Yuzo freaking Koshiro to write jingles/themes/stingers for you. I look forward to whatever this Sora title is, and hope I can play it on my Switch 2. Thank you, based Sakurai.
